Step Three Part Two: Lab Tests and Bariatric Surgery Support Group
I have officially completed my support group requirements and lab tests. Now I have most of the requirements needed for weight loss surgery done.
The lab tests took me by surprise! I had a follow up with my primary care doctor last week. We have been tracking my iron levels. I have been anemic since I started my period 100 years ago. My anemia has been very bad for the last few years because I wasn’t taking care of myself. I stopped taking supplements all together. Last year my iron level were very low again and my doctor told me to increase my iron supplements. For the last six months I have been on the right track with my supplements and my iron levels have got better. When that backstory, my doctor ordered some blood work to check my levels. When I walked in to the lab the techs were shocked with the about of tests I needed done. I was like …I only have to do one blood test and one pee test. They were like that’s not what the screen says. My surgeon ordered 12 tests! I was like holy cow! I had no idea that was even ordered. I am not suppose to see the surgeon for another two months! The techs were like we can wait to do it or you can just do it now. So we did it. Apparently, I am like super healthy. My iron level have improved A LOT! This makes me very so happy.
On Tuesday I went to my second support group. I feel like this support group was better than the last one I went to. I feel like it was better because there was a speaker there that I could relate to do. All but one speaker got WLS done because of varies health issues. The one speaker got WLS as a preventive. That’s exactly what I am doing. I don’t have major health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure but I have plenty family members with those types of health issues. I do have the very beginning stages of arthritis, however, it’s not severe. Listening and relating to this speaker helped me see that I am doing the right thing. I don’t need to wait until I am sick to take this step.
