The Bronx

Two years ago, I started my research on The Bronx. I came across the rich culture of the 40s and 50s. As my research continued, the information I came across saddened me. Burnt out neighborhoods, rapid depopulation and the building of the worst road in the United States, Cross Bronx Expressway. Last year I wrote an 11 page thesis on eminent domain and the Cross Bronx Expressway. I discussed how adding expressway to already high populated areas will only end in urban decay. Robert Moses was the leader in the "slum clearing" of the Bronx. He provided a way for cars to pass through the heart of the Bronx.

In 1985, my family moved from Williamsberg, Brooklyn to Morrisania, Bronx. We were apart of one of the first revitalization of the Bronx. We lived one block away from the Cross Bronx Expressway. My building was the only standing building on the four corners of E174 Street & Vyse Ave. Why would we move here? To this day I still don't know the answer to that.

I am proud to have grown up in the Bronx. Through the Urban Decay, I am a well-adjusted, educated, super mom.
